Asylum Applications

Applicants for asylum in the UK must be able to demonstrate a ‘well-founded fear of persecution’ in their home country based on a narrow range of protected characteristics or activities.
It is important to apply for asylum as soon as possible. This might be after you arrive in the UK or if circumstances in your home country change while you are here for another reason.

Where there is a right of appeal arising from a decision of the UK Border Agency or an Entry Clearance Officer at a British embassy or consulate abroad, there are usually strict time restrictions within which appeals must be lodged at the Immigration & Asylum Chamber (IAC). Once an immigration appeal is lodged, there will usually be further strict time limits for the preparation and filing of the necessary and relevant supporting case papers in preparation for the appeal hearing.
