When is a good time to update your Will?

If you already have an existing Will, we would recommend updating it whenever you have a major change in your life and circumstances. This can include life changes such as marriage, divorce, buying a new home, having children etc, anything that would mean a significant change to your intended beneficiaries. We would recommend that you review your Will every 5 years at the very least, to ensure no changes of circumstances have been overlooked since your Will was created or last updated.

Applying for Probate

Losing a loved one is a difficult time whether it be a family member or close friend. Its always best to seek the correct legal advice and guidance when dealing with their affairs after death. At Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors, we offer a bespoke service where we handle probate affairs sensitively and proactively to allow you time to deal with more important matters.

It would be necessary first to start by identifying the executors of the deceased’s estate and whether there is a valid will. If there is no will, it must be known who the administrators are. We offer legal assistance in putting together a list of assets within the deceased’s estate whether that be any property, bank accounts, shares and liabilities so that we can determine the value of the deceased estate.

We also deal with any Inheritance Tax issues that arise from the value of the estate. Usually, in most cases, there is no tax due however, we can advise on this in more detail if there is a need to. Once the assets are collected in , they are distributed in accordance with the clauses of the will or Intestacy Rules if there is no will. We can offer a fixed fee for obtaining probate where suitable and applicable and will explain to you precisely at the outset how much our charges will be. Contact us to discuss these arrangements in more detail.

  • 5 star review  Stuck in a legal rut? call Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP. in 2017 we had new UPVc flush fit windows fitted to our three bedroom detached house. From the day the windows were fitted we had problems and issues. A question I often ask myself, time after time. Is why did I pay the full amount knowing I wasn’t 100% happy. The window company Ryburne Windows of Halifax kept fobbing us off with excuses after excuses. They had our money and we felt powerless to do anything. They didn’t even have a formal complaints procedure. Which they were supposed to have being a CERTASS member. The Director of Ryburne’s told us, “just keep on writing in as the buck stops with me”. After many letters of complaint to the window company and CERTASS - who are a complete waste of time. We decided after two and a half years of complaining we would instruct a Solicitor. We went to see Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP armed with many documents and photos of the poorly fitted and poorly manufactured windows. Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP instantly understood our predicament and agreed to take on our case. Despite all the photographical evidence and a joint independent Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors (RICS) report into the manufacture and installation of the windows. The window company still wouldn’t accept the findings of the Surveyor’s report. They even got a former associate of theirs recommended by CERTASS to do a desk top critic of the independent surveyor's report. They failed on their attempt to introducing it as evidence to the courts. Thanks to a robust defence from Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP. With less than eight weeks before the reconvened hearing - May 2020, The window company decided to settle. After some tough negotiations by Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP. We got our money back for the windows plus our legal expenses. This would never have been achieved if it wasn’t for Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP. Whiterose Blackmans Solicitors LLP, a firm you can trust. 30th April 2020

  • 5 star review  I contacted Whitehorse Blackmans Solicitors as I needed help with my British Citizenship application. I was thoroughly and patiently guided through the maze of the questions I had by Mudassir over the phone, followed by an appointment at their office. Everyone at the office were so lovely, welcoming and helpful. Having had horrid experience with immigration solicitors in London before, I was so pleasantly surprised at Mudassir’s efficiency and commitment to his work. Everything went incredibly fast, with my application being ready and sent off within a week. I am so thrilled to say that I received my British citizenship a few days ago! The entire process took less than two months, mainly thanks to Mudassir’s incredible efficiency and organised hard work. His work was also complimented by the lady at the Biometrics office, letting me know that my documents were uploaded in such an incredibly organised and proper manner, allowing them to move forward quicker and send my case off to the Home Office on the same day, speeding up the process considerably. All I have to say is a massive thank you to Mudassir for his fantastic work. I highly recommend him and Whiterose Blackmans Excellent experience *****
